Alexandra Polyakova is an architect and photographer based in Berlin. Born in Odessa (Ukraine), she studied architecture at the University of the Fine Arts in Berlin and the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. She currently alternates the pursuit of art projects with her work as an architect.

Alexandra’s work explores the introspective relation between the human self and the natural environment. Her work is deeply inspired by her education as an architect. Her imagery’s underlying aesthetic is defined by the plasticity of forms, both natural and artificial. The work is nevertheless filled with a ‘magic’ realism by the juxtaposition of the human figure and nature in blurred shift in scale.

The mystery covering the human figure in the vastness of spaces takes the viewer in an in- ward-looking journey where the contemplation of nature is a window to the self discovery. Her pictures unveil the loneliness of being and their physical limitations contrasting with the longing for the potential but suspended in a never ending pilgrimage.

Alexandra is interested in photography’s visual approach but combines printed images with spatial installation, playing with the perception of the bi-dimensional image augmented by minimalistic interventions in the space.
Her work has been exhibited in Berlin, Venice and Odessa.
